Location Those of us who live in the heart of Bowland are very lucky indeed. Bowland has enjoyed the status of being an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) for many years, and set in breathtaking scenery, there is something for everyone with a love of the great outdoors. From the heather-clad hills to babbling brooks, interspersed with trees of many varieties, it is the home for a huge array of wildlife.
From deer, badgers, foxes, curlews, and peewits; to the
rare and exceedingly beautiful Hen Harrier we are proud
to use in our logo. There are several breeding pairs of this rare bird of prey in the area, due in no small part to the environmentally friendly, and largely extensive methods of farming in this area. We have therefore adopted this bird as an apt and fitting logo for our company. There are many pretty villages in Bowland, but probably the most famous being the lovely little village of Dunsop Bridge. For it is this village, thanks to the declaration by Ordnance Survey, which is said to be at the very centre of the kingdom of the British Isles. Even Her Majesty The Queen has expressed her love of Bowland, and paid great tribute to it, by stating that if she were to "retire" anywhere, it would be to this area. There is now a 46 mile walk, (which starts and finishes at Clitheroe Castle), called "Journey through the Centre of the Kingdom". The walk is arranged in eight linear sections, and passes through many villages, and includes various historical features.
Bowland is located in the triangular area boundaried by the M6 motorway, the A65 and the A59 trunk roads. The main access points from the motorway network are at Junction 32 just north of Preston and Junction 33 just south of Lancaster. Coming from the East, Clitheroe is the gateway town.
